SIHANOUKVILLE, Cambodia, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- The listed Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS), Cambodia's largest shipping facility, recorded a gross revenue of more than 85 million U.S. dollars in the first 11 months of 2023, a year-on-year increase of 2.7 percent, a port's data showed on Friday.

The state-owned port handled more than 7 million tons of containerized cargoes during the January-November period this year, up 11 percent year-on-year, the data added.

Speaking at a groundbreaking for the construction of a new container terminal Phase 1 at the port on Friday, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said the PAS has been playing a very important role in supporting Cambodia's socioeconomic development.

"The PAS is a major international gateway for Cambodia's trade exchanges with countries in the region and the world," he said. "We aim at transforming this feeder port into a regional logistics hub in 2029."

The PAS is the kingdom's sole international and commercial deep seaport.

Hun Manet said the port is currently capable of handling 800,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) per year, and its handling capacity will be increased to 2.5 million TEUs per year in 2029. Enditem
