KAMPALA, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Uganda has completed the distribution of 28.5 million free mosquito nets across the country, with the last stage completed in the central districts of Kampala, Mukono, and Wakiso on Friday.
Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, told Xinhua by phone that the distribution, which started earlier this year, officially ended on Friday and the infection rate has decreased according to reports from health centers across the country in 2023.
"We continue advising all the people to sleep under treated mosquito nets," he added.
Aisha Namaganda, a mother of three and a resident of Wakiso, told Xinhua that she had received enough nets for her family.
"Malaria treatment is not cheap. So it is better that we got free nets from the government," she said.
According to the World Health Organization, Uganda has one of the highest malaria incidence rates in the world, accounting for about 5 percent of all cases worldwide. Enditem
