JOHANNESBURG -- The number of people killed in recent flash floods in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa, has risen to 22, with three more still missing, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs said Saturday.

The heavy rains on Dec. 24 resulted in Bellspruit River bursting its banks, causing water to overflow onto the N11 road in Ladysmith Town, KwaZulu-Natal Province. Several vehicles traveling along the N11 and households located nearby were swept away. (South Africa-Flash Flood-Rising Death Toll)

MOSCOW -- At least two children were killed during shelling attacks on the Russian border city of Belgorod, regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Saturday.

"The Ukrainian Armed Forces shelled the center of Belgorod. According to preliminary information, two children were killed and several were injured. Residential settlements were also hit during the attacks," he said on social media. (Russia-Shelling Attacks)

BRAZZAVILLE -- At least 17 people were killed and more than 320,000 people were affected by flooding induced by torrential rains in recent weeks in the Republic of the Congo, said Prime Minister Anatole Collinet Makosso via a statement released late Friday.

Heavy rainfall caused the total or partial flooding of 361 villages and 36 neighborhoods in several departments of the country, namely Likouala, Sangha, Cuvette, Plateaux, Niari, Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville. (Congo-Flooding-Impact)

MEXICO CITY -- At least six people were killed and 26 injured in an attack by an armed group at a party early Friday in the northwestern Mexican state of Sonora, local authorities said.

The attack occurred at a "techno-party" in the streets of Ciudad Obregon in the municipality of Cajeme, Gustavo Salas, head of the Sonora Attorney General's Office, said during a press conference. (Mexico-Violence) Enditem
