Lusaka, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Zambia recorded 189 new cholera cases and eight deaths in the past 24 hours as the waterborne disease spreads to more districts, health authorities said on Saturday.

In its daily update, the Ministry of health said the cumulative cases have reached 3,702 since the outbreak of the disease in January this year while the death toll has climbed to 105.

A total of 150 people were discharged in the past day and 245 people were still admitted in various treatment facilities.

According to the update, the disease has affected districts in five of the country's 10 provinces.

On Friday, Vice President Mutale Nalumango visited a treatment facility in Kanyama shanty compound in Lusaka, the country's capital, which was most affected by the disease, aiming to encourage the medical staff and local officials who were treating patients and combating the disease. Enditem
