KINSHASA -- Felix Tshisekedi has been re-elected as president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo for a second five-year term, securing 73.34 percent of the total votes cast in the elections held on Dec. 20, the Independent National Electoral Commission said Sunday.

Moise Katumbi, one of the main opposition candidates, attained the second position with about 18 percent of the votes, according to the commission. (DRC-Presidential Election)

SANAA -- Yemen's Houthi group said Sunday that 10 of its fighters were killed by U.S. naval forces in the Red Sea while they were trying to hijack a commercial ship in international waters.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said in a statement broadcast live by the group's al-Masirah TV that the U.S. forces attacked three boats belonging to the Houthi rebels. (Yemen-Houthis-US-Red Sea Clashes)

CAIRO -- The Egyptian naval forces received on Sunday a new German-made MEKO-A200 frigate at a base in the coastal province of Alexandria, the Egyptian military said in a statement.

Built by Germany's ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), the frigate delivery procedures were already completed in Bremerhaven, Germany, in mid-December before the warship headed to Egypt. (Egypt-Navy-German Frigate)

DAMASCUS -- An Israeli missile strike near the international airport of Aleppo city in northern Syria killed five pro-Iran militias and three civilians overnight on Saturday, a war monitor reported Sunday.
