TOKYO -- Multiple cases of damage and injuries have been reported after strong earthquakes rocked Japan's western coast on Monday amidst the country's New Year celebrations, triggering tsunami warnings and evacuation orders in several prefectures.

The series of strong earthquakes with major ones of up to a preliminary 7.6 magnitude have been hitting a wide area on the Sea of Japan coast in central Japan since Monday afternoon, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). (Japan-Earthquake-Tsunami)

MANILA -- Philippine energy firm SP New Energy Corporation (SPNEC) has broken ground for a large solar project in central Luzon, north of Manila, the company said Monday.

The Terra Solar project would cover around 3,500 hectares in Nueva Ecija and Bulacan provinces and the first phase is expected to be completed by early 2026, the company said. (Philippines-Solar Project)

NEW DELHI -- At least six people were killed with two others critically injured in a road accident in India's eastern state of Jharkhand on Monday morning.

HANOI -- Vietnam recorded 12.6 million international visitor arrivals in 2023, a 3.4-fold rise from 2022, according to the latest data released by the country's General Statistics Office.
