16 people killed in road accidents in Zambia during New Year holiday

LUSAKA, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- At least 16 people were killed and 67 others seriously injured in road accidents that happened in Zambia during the New Year holiday, the police said on Tuesday.

Rae Hamoonga, spokesperson for the Zambia Police Service, said in a statement that the country recorded 262 road accidents, of which 16 were fatal and 40 serious.

He, however, said the number of road accidents recorded this year was an increase from 188 recorded during the same period last year, in which 14 people were killed and 43 others seriously injured. Enditem
