YANGON, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- A total of 86 people were killed, and 326 others injured in 163 traffic accidents on Myanmar's Yangon-Mandalay highway in 2023, Deputy Sheriff of Highway Police Office Myo Lin Thant told Xinhua on Monday.

The main causes of car accidents in Myanmar are vehicle defects, human faults, and road and weather conditions. Most of the traffic accidents occurring in the country are due to reckless driving, he added.

Although there were fewer traffic accidents in 2023, the number of dead and injured was higher than that in 2022, Myo Lin Thant said.

To reduce traffic accidents on the highway, the speed of vehicles is measured by radar devices along the expressway and action is taken against speeding vehicles, he added. Enditem
