KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shuttlers continued their winning ways at the Malaysia Open on Thursday, securing at least two spots in the quarterfinals in each of the five categories.

In the men's singles second round, Shi Yuqi cruised to a 21-13, 21-5 victory over Frenchman Toma Junior Popov, while Shi's teammate Lu Guangzu edged Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia 23-21, 25-23. Li Shifeng rallied to beat fellow Chinese shuttler Weng Hongyang 13-21, 21-16, 21-18.

Three Chinese players advanced to the women's singles last eight, with Olympic champion Chen Yufei delivering a 21-15, 21-18 win against Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand, while He Bingjiao and Zhang Yiman also progressed to the next round.

In the men's doubles, Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang bested their Japanese opponents Keiichiro Matsui and Yoshinori Takeuchi 21-14, 21-14, while Ren Xiangyu and He Jiting advanced after Indonesia's Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan retired in the second game.

Top-ranked women's doubles pair Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan outplayed Maiken Fruergaard and Sara Thygesen of Denmark 21-13, 22-20 to reach the quarterfinals. Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning, Zhang Shuxian and Zheng Yu, and Li Wenmei and Liu Xuanxuan, all from China, also made it to the last eight.

Mixed doubles top seeds Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong outplayed Indonesia's Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Lisa Ayu Kusumawati 21-18, 21-17, while Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin got the better of Malaysia's Chan Peng Soon and Cheah Yee See 21-14, 21-14.

But the Chinese team also saw a setback as women's singles player Han Yue fell 16-21, 21-19, 22-20 to Singapore's Yeo Jia Min.
