YANGON, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar is set to conduct a national population and housing census for year 2024 from Oct. 1 to Oct. 15 this year, the country's state-run television channel MRTV reported on Friday.
The upcoming national census will involve a series of distinct procedures, encompassing preparation, data collection, compilation, analysis, and the subsequent release of the census report, it said.
The primary objective of this national census is to confirm and publish population statistics for Myanmar while also providing a foundation for forecasting more precise future population and socio-economic data, it said.
As a preparation for the national census, Yangon Region has already made arrangements such as compiling fundamental lists, formation of supervisory committees and taking trial census, the media report said.
According to the latest update from the country's Department of Population on Friday, Myanmar's population is currently estimated to be over 56.38 million. Enditem
