TEHRAN, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Iran's police forces have arrested four "main individuals" involved in a deadly "terrorist" attack on police headquarters in the southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan Province, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported on Sunday.
The "terrorists" were arrested in a surprise operation, which shocked the "hostile" Jaish al-Zulm group, a separatist cell with ties to al-Qaeda that claimed responsibility for the "terrorist" attack in December last year, Mehr quoted Iran's Police Chief Ahmad Reza Radan as saying.
Eleven policemen were killed and seven others injured in the attack on the police headquarters in Rask County on Dec. 15, 2023.
Radan noted that a number of weapons and gears, as well as foreign banknotes, had been seized from the "criminals," adding information had been obtained about the other individuals involved in the "terrorist" attack.
Bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, Sistan and Baluchestan province has witnessed several terrorist attacks on both civilians and security forces over the past years.
On Wednesday, a policeman was killed in a "terrorist" attack by "gunmen" on a police station in Rask County, the official news agency IRNA quoted County Governor Salim Kadkhoda as saying.
He added the gunmen sought to force their way into the police station but failed to do so thanks to the police forces' resistance.
According to IRNA, the Jaish al-Zulm group claimed responsibility for the attack. Enditem
