LA PAZ, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Three people were killed and 29 injured Tuesday after a passenger bus collided with a cargo truck on a highway connecting the west Bolivian departments of La Paz and Oruro, police said.
Many of the injured were taken to various hospitals in the cities of Patacamaya and El Alto, Rural and Border Police Chief Miguel Hidalgo told reporters.
"The drivers and several passengers are seriously injured, we are waiting for the medical report," said Hidalgo.
According to preliminary reports, both vehicles were traveling in the same lane when they violently collided "as a result of the recklessness of one of the drivers" near Patacamaya, in the La Paz Department.
Patacamaya residents were quickly mobilized to help the survivors who scrambled out of the bus windows. The fatal victims were trapped by the twisted iron interior of the vehicle. Enditem
