ABIDJAN, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Equatorial Guinea overwhelmed Cote d'Ivoire 4-0 in the third round match in Group A of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) here on Monday.

In the other match of the group, Nigeria beat Guinea-Bissau 1-0.

Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria, with seven points each, finished top two of the group and qualified for the knockout stage. Third-ranked Cote d'Ivoire had to wait for the results in other groups to know whether it can progress to the next phase.

24 participating teams for the AFCON were divided into six groups, with winners and runners-up in each group and the four best third-placed teams qualifying for the last 16. Enditem
