JAKARTA, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has further strengthened its relations with Tanzania after a meeting between their leaders here on Thursday, strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, human resources development, and health, among others.

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan was on her first working visit to the Southeast Asian country.

"The friendship between Indonesia and Tanzania was further strengthened today with President Samia's visit to Indonesia, where we have agreed to continue to provide concrete cooperation in various sectors," Indonesian President Joko Widodo said in a joint press statement.

A preferential trade agreement will be established to increase trade and negotiations will begin this year, said Widodo.

He said that both countries were committed to strengthening cooperation in the oil and gas sector with Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina expanding cooperation in the Mnazi Bay Development Area in Tanzania and conducting training for employees of the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation.

Indonesia is also committed to help revitalize Farmer's Agriculture and Rural Training Center in the Tanzanian city of Morogoro and provide human resources development training in some sectors, he said, calling on the country's pharmaceutical companies to meet medical needs in the African country.

Widodo also expressed his hope that Tanzania could participate in the second Indonesia-Africa Forum this year.

"The second Indonesia-Africa Forum is to strengthen South-South cooperation, where Tanzania is one of the main partners," Widodo said. Enditem
