SIEM REAP, Cambodia, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese athletes won the seventh Angkor Ultra Trail 100-km challenge held at the Angkor archaeological park in northwest Cambodia on Saturday.

Ni Yusheng won the men's race after crossing the finish line in nine hours, 14 minutes and 17 seconds.

In the women's draw, Wei Xinshuang won in a time of 11:51:13.

Thong Khon, a senior minister and president of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), attended the closing ceremony and awarded trophies to the winners.

Speaking at the event, Khon said the event aimed to promote the sports movement, boost the economy, preserve heritage sites and enhance tourism.

"It stands out as a unique sport adventure tourism event where participants run day and night through forests, rural areas, and villages, including the ancient temples of Angkor Park, a well-known cultural heritage site spanning 401 square kilometers," he said.

"The Angkor Ultra Trail also shows the world that Cambodia is peaceful and beautiful, with natural wonders, and friendly people," he added.

Khon said a total of 1,500 participants from 51 countries and regions took part in the Angkor Ultra Trail 2024, marking a 25 percent increase compared to the 2023 edition.

The event was classified as six types of races: the 100-km ultra trail, 64-km trail, 42-km trail, 32-km trail, 18-km run, and 8-km contest. Enditem
