MOSCOW, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Russia and Belarus will work together to ensure equal and indivisible security for both countries, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday.

"We will work together to ensure equal and indivisible security, in the interests of forming a truly multipolar, democratic, and just world order," Putin said during a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State in St. Petersburg.

The Russian leader emphasized the fundamental importance of the current meeting, saying that both countries are committed to deepening mutually beneficial integration within the Union State.

"Russia and Belarus are closely cooperating on the international arena, amid unprecedented external pressure," Putin said, adding that Moscow and Minsk have coinciding or similar approaches towards current global and regional challenges.

Belarus and Russia will aim to develop "even closer coordination in international affairs," said the Russian president.

For his part, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko noted that it was important to strengthen the Union State's position on the global stage, adding it was necessary to eliminate all barriers that hinder the mutual supply of goods between the two countries. Enditem
