3 dead after fishing boat capsizes in Japan's lake

TOKYO, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Three deaths were reported on Tuesday after an overturned fishing boat was discovered on Lake Biwa in the Japanese prefecture of Shiga, according to local police.

The Shiga prefectural police on Tuesday received a call from a fisherman who had spotted an overturned boat on Lake Biwa, the country's largest freshwater lake, and local authorities, including the fire department, arrived at the scene to retrieve the bodies of the three deceased.

The police disclosed that all three victims were males approximately 50 years old, with life jackets on.

It was reported that the victims were reported missing on Monday evening after they had gone fishing on Lake Biwa on Monday and had not returned, according to local media reports.

The accident occurred near a fishing area known for black bass and trout. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Enditem
