TEHRAN, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Iranian border guards have killed a member of the Ansar al-Forghan "terrorist" group in the southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province near its border with Pakistan, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported on Tuesday.

The member was killed in an armed clash with the provincial border guards in Jakigur village in Rask County, Tasnim quoted Iran's Border Guards Commander Ahmad Ali Goudarzi as saying, without specifying the date of the clash.

He said the slain individual was a member of a coalition comprising the "terrorist" groups operating in eastern Iran, who had taken part in another "terrorist" operation in the province in the past.

Goudarzi said the Ansar al-Forghan "terrorist" group also confirmed the death of its member in a statement.

The Ansar al-Forghan is a Takfiri extremist group that Iran designated as a terrorist cell. It has claimed responsibility for a number of attacks in Sistan and Baluchestan province over the past years.

On Monday, Goudarzi said Iran's border guards had smashed a "terrorist" group following an armed clash with its members in Jakigur, according to Tasnim. One member of the "terrorist" group was killed and two others escaped after sustaining injuries during an exchange of fire with Iranian border guards.

Bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, Sistan and Baluchestan province has witnessed several terrorist attacks on both civilians and security forces over the past years.

On Dec. 15, 2023, 11 policemen were killed and seven others injured in an attack on a police headquarters in Rask County, for which the Jaish al-Zulm "terrorist" group claimed responsibility. Enditem
