3.82 mln stimulant tablets seized in Myanmar's Yangon

YANGON, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar police have seized 3.82 million stimulant tablets, 48 kg of methamphetamine and 50 kg of ketamine in Yangon region, according to the state-run media Myanmar Digital News on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotic police searched a vehicle, which was driven by Tint Zaw, accompanied by two other people, on Jan. 24 in South Okkalapa township of Yangon and confiscated 38 kg of methamphetamine.

Furthermore, methamphetamine and stimulant tablets were seized from Tint Zaw's home in North Dagon township.

According to an investigation, 3.82 million stimulant tablets, 50 kg of ketamine and 10 kg of methamphetamine were captured from the suspect's rented car in North Dagon.

The street value of the seized drugs is over 7.52 billion kyats (about 3.58 million U.S. dollars).

Investigations revealed that the seized drugs was transported from Shan state to Yangon region. The drugs will be stored in Yangon for a while before being transported from Yangon to Kayin state.

The suspects were charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, and further investigations were underway, the report said. Enditem
