GAZA -- The Palestinian death toll from ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has exceeded 27,000, the Gaza-based Health Ministry said Thursday.

The ministry said in a press statement that the Israeli army killed 118 Palestinians and wounded 190 others in the strip during the past 24 hours. (Gaza-Israeli Attacks-Death Toll)

SANAA -- Yemen's Houthi forces on Thursday claimed responsibility for launching a new missile attack against a British commercial vessel in the Red Sea.

"In support of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and response to the U.S.-British aggression on our country (Yemen), we targeted a British commercial ship at the Red Sea which was heading to the ports of Israel," Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said in a statement aired by the group's al-Masirah TV. TEHRAN -- Iran on Thursday started the construction of a 5,000-megawatt (MW) nuclear power plant in the southern province of Hormozgan, according to the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA).

The project kicked off in a ceremony in Sirik County attended by President of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami, the report said. (Iran-Power Plant)

ALGIERS -- Algeria and Italy on Thursday inked a comprehensive security agreement in Algiers to reinforce coordination in combating illegal migration and cross-border crimes ranging from drug trafficking to cybercrime, Algeria's state-run Radio Algeria reported.
