THE HAGUE, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Three border crossings between the Netherlands and Belgium were closed on Friday morning due to farmers' protests in Belgium.

The Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management temporarily closed the highway border crossings towards Belgium on the A67 at Eersel, the A4 at Markiezaat and the A16 at Hazeldonk, all in the southern Dutch province of North Brabant. Borders in the other direction, from Belgium to the Netherlands, were also closed.

The Dutch ministry advised users of the highways to Belgium to postpone travel where possible, or take a detour through the province of Limburg.

So far, the road closures have not led to any major delays or traffic jams.

The farmers' protests in Belgium began last week, with border highways to the Netherlands blocked by tractors on Thursday night. Farmers are protesting against government regulations, resulting in decreased income and an uncertain future. Around 30 to 40 Dutch farmers have also joined the protests at the borders with their tractors.

Farmers also took action in the Netherlands last night. Around 15 tractors gathered on Dam Square in the center of Amsterdam, and dozens of farmers also protested at the provincial government building in Arnhem. Enditem
