TOKYO -- Smoke was confirmed coming out of a building at No.1 reactor of Tsuruga nuclear power plant in Fukui prefecture, central Japan, on Thursday morning, local media reported.

At around 6:30 a.m. local time, an employee at the facility reported that smoke was coming out of the reactor's turbine building, the public broadcaster NHK said, citing local firefighting authorities. (Japan-Tsuruga Nuclear Power Plant)

QUITO -- Ecuador's National Assembly on Wednesday approved the free trade agreement between Ecuador and China, according to local authorities.

China is Ecuador's second-largest trading partner. China and Ecuador formally signed the free trade agreement on May 11, 2023, making Ecuador China's 27th free trade partner. (Ecuador-China-Free trade)

SEOUL -- The top legislature of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) abolished legal documents on inter-Korean economic cooperation during the latest plenary meeting of its standing committee on Wednesday, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Thursday.

The plenary meeting of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), which was held at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang, discussed and unanimously adopted a decree "on abolishing the law of the DPRK on north-south economic cooperation, the law on special zone for international tour of Mount Kumgang and regulations for its enforcement and agreements on north-south economic cooperation," said the KCNA report. ISLAMABAD -- Polling for Pakistan's general elections started across the country on Thursday morning, said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Spokesperson of the ECP Syed Nadeem Haider told Xinhua that polling had started at 8:00 a.m. local time (0300 GMT) without a delay, adding that the voting process would continue uninterrupted till 5:00 p.m. local time (1200 GMT). (Pakistan-General Elections-Voting) Enditem
