TEHRAN, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Two members of Iran's Basij paramilitary force were killed on Sunday morning by gunmen in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan, the official news agency IRNA reported.
The victims, identified as Mohammad-Anvar Gomshadzehi and Abdol-Hossein Baloch, were killed in a "cowardly shooting attack by armed thugs" on a guard post along the railway from the provincial capital Zahedan to Bam County in the southeastern province of Kerman, the report quoted a statement by the Ground Force of Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps as saying, without elaborating on the cause of the attack.
Bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, Sistan and Baluchestan province has witnessed several terrorist attacks on both civilians and security forces in recent years.
On Dec. 15, 2023, 11 policemen were killed and seven others injured in an attack on a police headquarters in Rask County in the province, for which the Jaish al-Zulm "terrorist" group claimed responsibility. Enditem
