DOHA, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Erika Fairweather has etched her name in New Zealand's sports history by claiming the nation's first-ever swimming world title at the World Aquatics Championships.

The triumph unfolded on Sunday night, as Fairweather showcased her prowess in the women's 400m freestyle event. The 20-year-old surged towards the finish line, touching the wall in a time of three minutes and 59.44 seconds.

Following closely behind, Li Bingjie of China, who had claimed bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, clinched second place with four minutes and 1.62 seconds. Germany's Isabel Gose rounded off the podium with a bronze finish.

South Korea's Kim Woo-min demonstrated dominance in the men's 400m freestyle, leading at every wall from the 100-meter mark to ultimately triumph with a time of three minutes and 42.71 seconds, ahead of a charge by Australia's Elijah Winnington and Lukas Martens of Germany.
