KABUL -- The last two Afghan prisoners who had been in the U.S.-run Guantanamo prison for years were set free and returned to Afghanistan's capital Kabul on Monday, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported.

"Two Afghan prisoners formerly held at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp have returned to Kabul, marking the completion of the release process for all detainees associated with the Islamic Emirate," the news agency said, without providing more details. (Afghanistan-Guantanamo Prisoners)

GAZA -- The death toll in the Israeli army's heavy strikes on the southern city of Rafah and surrounding areas of the Gaza Strip exceeded 100 on Monday, with hundreds of injuries, including women and children, reported the official Palestinian news agency WAFA.

About 40 airstrikes on the Rafah area in the early hours of Monday were conducted by the Israeli army, with intensive ground shelling, it said. (Gaza-Israel-Strike)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was hospitalized on Sunday "for symptoms suggesting an emergent bladder issue," said the Pentagon.

SAO PAULO -- Brazilian police on Sunday arrested Army Col. Bernardo Romao Correa Netto, who is accused of plotting to prevent Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva from taking office in 2022 after he won the general elections.
