KABUL, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) has handed over the keys of 100 houses to quake-affected families in east Afghanistan's Khost province, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported.

Mawlawi Matiul Haq Khalis, chairman of the ARCS, personally distributed the keys in a ceremony held in the Spera district recently, the media outlet added.

Thousands of houses were destroyed and around 1,000 people lost their lives in an earthquake and aftershocks that struck Khost, Paktika and Paktia provinces in June 2022.

Afghan caretaker government has promised to build shelters for all the quake-affected families.

The administration as well as aid agencies and individuals have also built hundreds of houses for the quake-affected families who lost their houses in tremors in the western Herat province last October. Enditem
