BANGKOK, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's consumer confidence index (CCI) continued to increase in January, reaching a 47-month high due to government steps to boost the economy and lower living costs, a survey showed on Tuesday.
According to the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) survey of 2,246 respondents across the Southeast Asian country, the CCI rose to 62.9 last month from 62.0 in December 2023 as components of the index improved for the sixth month.
The January figure was attributed to the government's stimulus measures, notably the income tax deduction and energy and gasoline price cuts, along with rebounding foreign tourist arrivals, the UTCC said in a statement.
Consumers remained cautious with their spending due to the high cost of living and ongoing geopolitical tensions, said UTCC President Thanavath Phonvichai.
Despite a slow recovery, the CCI is projected to return to normal levels in the fourth quarter of the year, Thanavath told a news conference. Enditem
