MONROVIA -- Liberian President Joseph Boakai on Monday confirmed the resignation of the Minister of National Defense Prince C. Johnson amid protests by wives of military men in the country.

Boakai "has received and accepted a letter of resignation from the recently confirmed Minister of National Defense Mr. Prince C. Johnson," the presidency said in a statement. (Liberia-Minister-Resignation)

BANGKOK -- Thailand's former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is set to be released soon, Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong said Tuesday.

Tawee told reporters before attending a cabinet meeting that Thaksin is among the 930 inmates approved for parole this month. The 74-year-old is eligible for parole for being aged above 70 and with severe illness. (Thailand-Thaksin-Release)

SEOUL -- South Korea's jobless claims rose last month amid the lingering worry about economic slump, labor ministry data showed Tuesday.

The number of new applicants for job-seeking benefits stood at 201,500 in January, up 7.0 percent from the same month of last year, according to the Ministry of Employment and Labor. (South Korea-Jobless)

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia logged one more case of mpox, also known as monkeypox, bringing the total number of infections in the kingdom to 10 since last December, the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Laboratory results from the National Institute of Public Health showed on Monday that another man was positive for mpox, so the total confirmed cases of the disease in Cambodia have increased to 10," the ministry said. (Cambodia-Mpox) Enditem
