VIENTIANE, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone has advised the Lao central bank to tackle the country's economic and financial problems, local media reported.

At the 11th general meeting of the Bank of the Lao PDR (BOL) fourth party executive committee held here last Friday, Sonexay identified some important issues to be addressed by the banking sector, Lao National Radio reported on Tuesday.

The central bank must tackle unresolved issues in the implementation of the 2024 monetary plan, especially as this is the final year of the ninth Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan, the prime minister said.

Sonexay added that all types of financial institutions must be protected against the risk of internal and external financial crises so that the country's financial system is secure.

Governor of BOL Bounleua Sinxayvoravong delivered a report on the bank's operations at the meeting, which was also attended by ministers, deputy ministers, state organizations and bank employees. Enditem
