ABUJA, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed and 12 others sustained varying degrees of injuries Tuesday when a car rammed into a moving truck in Nigeria's southwestern state of Ogun, traffic police said.

Florence Okpe, a spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun, told reporters in the state capital of Abeokuta, that the incident occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, as the driver of the car lost control "while sleeping" and rammed his vehicle into the truck in front.

"The suspected cause of the fatal crash was fatigue which led to loss of control because the driver slept off on the wheels," Okpe said.

All the injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, she said, adding the remains of the dead victims were deposited in a morgue.

Deadly road accidents are frequently reported in Nigeria, often caused by overloading, bad road conditions, and reckless driving. Enditem
