KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- The iconic rock formation of Bako National Park in the northern Borneo state of Sarawak known as the Cobra Head Sea Stack has been destroyed as a result of wave action, local authorities said on Wednesday.

The destruction of the natural structure was first reported by a park guide at 4 p.m. local time on Tuesday, Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) said in a statement.

"This sea stack held great significance as one of the country's geological treasures, formed from sandstone over millions of years through the process of erosion," it said.

"Its unique formation had captivated visitors, sculpting the rocky headland into exquisitely shaped sea stacks and sea arches that never failed to mesmerize tourists," it added. Enditem
