BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Buenos Aires has been chosen as the host city for this year's Copa Libertadores final, South American football governing body CONMEBOL said on Tuesday.
It will mark the first time that Argentina has hosted the final of South American football's premier club competition since it adopted a single-match format at a neutral venue in 2019. The title decider was previously played over two home-and-away legs.
CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez and the Argentine Football Association confirmed the news in brief statements on social media.
Though a specific venue was not named, it is understood the match will be played at River Plate's Monumental stadium, which was recently upgraded to seat more than 84,000 spectators.
Other cities to have hosted the Copa Libertadores final since it changed to a one-off fixture are Rio de Janeiro (twice), Lima, Montevideo and Guayaquil. Enditem
