ULAN BATOR, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- The average price per square meter of newly constructed apartments in Ulan Bator reached 3.9 million Mongolian Tugriks (around 1,147 U.S. dollars) at the end of January, up 9 percent year-on-year, official data showed Thursday.

Meanwhile, the average price per square meter of old apartments in the Mongolian capital hit 3.7 million Mongolian Tugriks, up 8.7 percent year-on-year, said the country's National Statistics Office.

Housing has been one of the most pressing issues in Mongolia, especially in the capital, home to more than half of the country's population of roughly 3.5 million.

More than half of Ulan Bator's residents live in its ger districts, with no running water, central heating or sewerage systems. Enditem
