WINDHOEK, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Namibia will participate in the inaugural International Masters Cricket (IMC) Over 40s World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa from February 19 to March 1.
Namibia captain Nicolaas Buys on Thursday expressed confidence in his team's abilities following their successful outing in the Africa Cup tournament in last November, where they clinched the silver medal behind winners South Africa.
"After a very successful Africa Cup tournament in November, the expectation both within the team and from our supporters is to do well and for a strong showing at the World Cup," he said.
Namibia is placed in Pool A alongside England, Australia, Zimbabwe, Canada and the United States for the upcoming IMC World Cup.
"It would be a great achievement if we can finish in the top 3 of our pool, which would mean a top 6 finish and pushing for a semifinal place. That said, we have to be realistic as we will compete against powerful and experienced teams," said Buys.
Namibia's Rowan Erasmus termed Australia and England as major opponents in their pool.
"A revitalized Zimbabwe may provide some unexpected results," he added.
The inaugural IMC Over-40s World Cup features 42 games over two weeks. Namibia's opening match will be against Canada on February 19. Enditem
