MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan -- An earthquake struck Mazar-i-Sharif city, the provincial capital of north Afghanistan's Balkh province, and adjoining areas on Sunday, with no report on casualties, locals said.

The Balkh provincial police in a statement released after the quake said, "A relatively strong tremor jolted Mazar-i-Sharif city at 03:52 p.m. local time but so far no report on loss of life and property damage has been received." (Afghanistan-Earthquake)

SINGAPORE -- Chinese passenger jet C919 made a rehearsal flight Sunday in Singapore to prepare for the upcoming airshow.

BANGKOK -- Thailand's convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was released on parole on Sunday, six months after his return to the country from self-exile.

Xinhua reporters observed that a car carrying Thaksin left a police hospital in Bangkok at 6:06 a.m. local time (2306 GMT) on Sunday, where he received medical treatment and served six months of his one-year prison sentence. (Thailand-Thaksin-Release) Enditem
