MEXICO CITY, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Pumas UNAM climbed to second in Mexico's Liga MX standings on Sunday with a 3-0 home victory over Santos Laguna.
Guillermo Martinez and Jose Caicedo struck first-half goals before Leonardo Suarez added a third just after the hour at Estadio Olimpico in Mexico City.
Pumas now have 15 points from eight games, one fewer than leaders Cruz Azul, while Santos Laguna have just four points from seven outings.
Meanwhile, Federico Vinas converted a 93rd-minute penalty as 10-man Leon scraped to a 1-0 victory at Atlas.
The visitors were handed a numerical disadvantage when Luis Cervantes was shown a straight red card for a violent challenge on Raymundo Fulgencio in the seventh minute.
The result leaves Leon 11th in the 18-team standings with seven points, one point behind 10th-placed Atlas.
In Sunday's only other Liga MX fixture, Monterrey were held to a goalless home draw by Toluca. Enditem
