COLOMBO, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Over 600 Sri Lankans have left for Israel for agriculture sector work in the past month, Manusha Nanayakkara, minister of labor and foreign employment, told the media on Monday.

Elaborating on a speech he gave earlier on the day at an event where 95 people leaving for jobs in Israel received air tickets, Nanayakkara said that in the past month, 602 Sri Lankans have left for agriculture jobs in Israel.

The minister said that he will soon meet the Israeli minister of agriculture to sign a formal agreement on sending agricultural workers there.

Nanayakkara also said 1,070 Sri Lankans have left for jobs in Israel as caregivers last year. Enditem
