Latvia reports trade drop in 2023

RIGA, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Latvia reported 42.14 billion euros (45.41 billion U.S. dollars) of foreign trade turnover last year, a drop of 5.69 billion euros or 11.9 percent from the 2022 volume, according to official statistics published here on Monday.

In breakdown, the country's exports of goods totaled 18.94 billion euros last year, down 11.2 percent from 2022. Its imports dropped 12.5 percent to 23.2 billion euros, data from the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show.

In 2023, Latvia exported goods to countries worldwide. Exports to its five largest destination markets -- Lithuania, Estonia, Germany, Sweden and Russia -- made up 48.4 percent of the total exports value. Its major export commodities were wood, electrical machinery and equipment, as well as mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation.

Almost 56 percent of Latvia's imports last year were from its five largest imports partners, namely Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Estonia and the Netherlands. (1 euro = 1.08 U.S. dollar) Enditem
