GENEVA, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Modern pentathlon's international governing body UIPM on Monday announced plans to test a single-elimination format for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

UIPM's Athletes Committee, Coaches Committee and Technical Committee held an annual joint meeting in Frankfurt, Germany, from February 16 to 18, and proposed three options for the fencing discipline to the UIPM Executive Board.

All the three options contain a single-elimination format, which means pentathletes will compete for the first time in the groups, quarterfinals, semifinals and final.

The current format is a two-venue model of a full-scale Ranking Round, followed by a Bonus Round with a ladder-style elimination.

UIPM will test the various formats with volunteering National Federations from March to May, and the results will be analysed by the Executive Board before the final decision is presented to the UIPM 2024 Congress. Enditem
