JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- In a drive against illicit crops, the Counter-Narcotics police have destroyed 22 acres of poppy farms in east Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, provincial police said in a statement on Wednesday.

The counter-narcotics police have smashed 11 acres of poppy farms in Spinghar district, the remaining 11 acres of poppy farms were destroyed in Chaparhar, Achin, Nazian and other parts of Nangarhar, the statement said.

Similarly, police in Nangarhar province foiled attempts to smuggle 631 kg of hashish recently and arrested seven persons on charge of involvement in drug business.

The Afghan caretaker government banned poppy cultivation, its processing to drug and drug trafficking in April 2022, and since then the administration has been fighting to eliminate the drug menace. Enditem
