Wang Ye wins women's 500m gold at ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships

WARSAW, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- China's Wang Ye won the women's 500m at the ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2024 in Gdansk, Poland on Saturday.

The 18-year-old clocked 43.921 seconds ahead of South Korea's Chung Jae-hee, who crossed the line in 44.292, and Victoria Jean-Baptiste of Canada finished third with 44.824.

In the men's 500m, South Korea's Shin Dong-min took the gold medal with 42.122, followed by Sean Shuai of the United States 0.052 seconds behind. Shin's compatriot Rim Jongun finished third with 42.407. China's Zhang Bohao won the Final B in 42.809.

China's Lyu Wanyu grabbed a bronze medal in the women's 1,500m race after she finished in 2:48.481 just behind the winner Maja Dora Somodi of Hungary (2:48.391) and Kazakhstan's Alina Azhgaliyeva (2:48.478).

In the mixed team relay, China advanced into the Final A heat after they crossed the line in 2:43.616 to beat South Korea, Italy, France and Hungary.

In the men's 3,000m relay, the Chinese speed skaters also met the expectations as they turned out to be the best in their semifinal heat. Li Kun, Lyu Yanpeng, Zhang Bohao and Zhang Tianyi finished in 4:06.371 to take the first place ahead of South Korea, the United States and Canada. The Final A will be played on Sunday.

Rim Jongun of South Korea won the men's 1,500m with 2:20.640. Italy's Lorenzo Previtali earned a silver medal with 2:21.312, while Canada's Gabriel Jones pocketed bronze with 2:21.439. Enditem
