KUALA LUMPUR, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's producer price index, which measures the prices of goods at the factory gate, declined 0.6 percent in January 2024, official data showed Tuesday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia said that the mining sector fell 1.3 percent, affected by the drop in the index of extraction of natural gas.

At the same time, the manufacturing sector also decreased 0.9 percent due to the decline in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products and the manufacture of food products indices.

The electricity and gas supply sector also continued to decrease by 0.8 percent.

Nevertheless, the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector went up by 3.2 percent, contributed by animal production and growing of perennial crops indices.

The water supply index also posted a growth of 0.6 percent in the month.

On a monthly basis, the producer price index for local production marginally decreased by 0.1 percent. Enditem
