BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Argentinos Juniors moved to the top of Argentina's Primera Division Group A standings on Monday with a 3-1 home victory over Platense.
Alan Lescano and Thiago Santamaria were on target in the first half before Santiago Montiel made it 3-0 with a second-half strike.
Mateo Pellegrino scored a late consolation goal for the visitors, who had eight shots on target but were repeatedly denied by a series of fine saves from goalkeeper Diego Rodriguez.
"This team has incredible humility and a willingness to work hard," Argentinos Juniors manager Pablo Guede said after the match.
"To be top of the group is a just reward for the efforts of all of the players."
The Buenos Aires outfit now have 14 points from seven outings and are a point clear of second-placed River Plate in Group A. Platense are 11th in the 14-team Group B with just six points.
In other Primera Division fixtures on Monday, Central Cordoba drew 0-0 at home to Atletico Tucuman, Tigre drew 2-2 at Velez Sarsfield and Defensa y Justicia were held to a 1-1 home draw by Deportivo Riestra. Enditem
