BERLIN, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Finding a suitable coach and restructuring the squad is the most pressing issue for Bayern Munich's new board member Max Eberl.

Aside from the upcoming summer's challenges, the 50-year-old former Moenchengladbach and Leipzig sporting director said the 2020 treble winner is far from giving up the current season.

"We are in the role of the hunting party, but it is a common goal of all to make the best out of the situation and possibly create a surprise," the former defender said after signing a contract until 2027.

Despite the short-term goals, finding a successor for departing coach Thomas Tuchel is near a herculean task.

Media reports speak of Bayern targeting current Leverkusen coach and former Bayern and Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Naturally, the new coach must be at the center of the strategic planning for the next season and the future in general, the new Bayern official stated.

It seems more than a delicate task to run negotiations with league rival Leverkusen while the club finds itself in the middle of crunch time of the national league season.

Aside from Alonso, French icon Zinedine Zidane and Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeness are mentioned as possible candidates.

"I am far from being a savior, but to make Bayern work is far from witchcraft," Eberl said.

The official mentioned his intention to sign Alonso while being in charge in Moenchengladbach. "The fact is, he knows all about Bayern; he played in Bayern's shirt, but it's not the time to join speculations and rumors. We will analyse our club's situation carefully and make the needed decisions."

The new coach’s first job is to be involved in the intended restructuring of the squad, he emphasized.

"I see the heritage this club has, and it makes me feel humble," he said while adding his engagement feels like coming home as he started his football career in Bayern's youth teams at an early age.

As Hoeness and Rummenigge left behind huge footsteps: "I for sure will consider their expertise to make Bayern successful."

To win his first national championship "is a desired goal for me. I never won the league title, but many here in the club did."

To use the experience is a must for anyone joining Bayern, he added.

Eberl announced talks with the team's stars such as Joshua Kimmich and other key forces. In the case of Alphonso Davies, "We will talk to him too and make a decision."

Spanish media reports talk of the Canadian fullback being in close negotiations with Real.

"I am here to win silverware and titles. I am determined to start with that right away and be successful over the upcoming months until the 2023/24 season ends," Eberl said. Enditem
