ALGIERS -- Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Thursday inked a number of agreements with his visiting Mozambican counterpart Filipe Nyusi to strengthen cooperation, Algeria's state-owned news agency APS reported.

The agreements cover the areas of energy, plant protection, agricultural quarantine, animal health, and reciprocal visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and service passports, the report said. (Algeria-Mozambique-Ties)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday passed another stopgap funding bill to extend government funding to avert a partial shutdown, ahead of a Friday deadline.

YAOUNDE -- The leader of Chad's opposition Socialist Party Without Borders (PSF), Yaya Dillo, was killed following clashes in N'Djamena, the Chadian capital, state prosecutor Oumar Kedellaye said Thursday.

Dillo died Wednesday from injuries sustained after security forces attacked the PSF headquarters, where he was hiding with other party members, Kedellaye told a press briefing. He said an exchange of fire during the attack caused "dozens of deaths and injuries" and led to the arrest of 26 people. (Chad-Clash-Opposition leader)

LILONGWE -- Flash floods have devastated two lakeshore districts of Malawi -- Nkhotakota in the central region and Karonga in the northern region, leaving one dead and thousands displaced, authorities have confirmed.

The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) announced Thursday that the floods have displaced more than 7,000 people from Nkhotakota alone, and the displaced have been evacuated to nine camps in the district. DoDMA also confirmed one death and reported that 900 people who were trapped in various areas have been rescued by the national search and rescue team led by the Malawi Defense Force (MDF).
