KIGALI, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The Rwanda Defense Force (RDF) and Rwanda National Police (RNP), in collaboration with local government and other partners, on Friday launched the countrywide three-month Defense and Security Citizen Outreach Program 2024.

The initiative, dubbed "30 Years of Liberation: Defense and Security Organs Partnering with the Community for Rwanda's Development," aims to support community development across the country and supplement the national development agenda.

Speaking at the launch in Musanze district, northern province, Rwandan Minister of Defense Juvenal Marizamunda urged the people to participate in the planned activities during the three months.

"You should prioritize safety, ensure children attend school, uphold cleanliness in all aspects and actively contribute to national development efforts, among other responsibilities," he told residents gathered for the event.

The event included the construction of bridges, Early Childhood Development centers (ECD), drilling and water supply projects, as well as the construction of houses for vulnerable members of the community in various districts across the country.

Marizamunda expressed gratitude for the trust and cooperation extended by the public to the security organs, recognizing the crucial role they play in upholding the country's security and development.

He said that the collaborative approach has yielded remarkable results in achieving prosperity and an improved quality of life for citizens.

This year's Defense and Security Outreach Program will involve the construction of 31 homes for those in need, the establishment of 15 ECD centers, the construction of 13 bridges and the distribution of four boats.

Additional activities include the distribution of 800 livestock for community farming, the provision of medical treatment, water and electricity supply to 327 households, and the enhancement of other infrastructures. Enditem
