MADRID, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Valencia will be without central defender Mouctar Diakhaby for the rest of the season and, perhaps longer after he suffered a serious knee injury in the closing moments of its 2-2 draw at home to Real Madrid on Saturday night.

The Guinea international was unlucky when Real Madrid defender Aurelian Tchouameni accidently fell on top of his knee as both players went to ground on the edge of the Valencia penalty area.

Pitch-side microphones caught the defender crying out in pain and several players from both sides were unable to look as they quickly called for the medical services.

Diakhaby was carried off and taken immediately to hospital where he underwent tests.

Valencia published a medical report on Sunday morning which explained he had been "diagnosed with a dislocated right knee, in tests carried out following Valencia CF's game at Mestalla against Real Madrid," adding that the player had spent the night in hospital and would "undergo further tests."

It's not yet certain if he has suffered ligament damage, which would need an operation and up to nine months out, but the defender is unlikely to play again this season. Enditem
