MADRID, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Valencia CF announced on Tuesday that its central defender, Mouctar Diakhaby will have an operation in France on Thursday to treat the horrific knee injury he suffered in the closing minutes of his side's 2-2 draw at home to Real Madrid on Saturday night.

Diakhaby was carried off the field in agony and taken immediately to hospital after Real Madrid defender, Aurelian Tchouameni accidentally fell on top of him, with pitch-side commentators informing that part of the bone had pieced the skin.

The 27-year-old Guinea international was able to visit his team-mates at their Paterna training ground on Tuesday with his leg in a cast and the club issued a medical report.

"Mouctar Diakhaby will undergo surgery on Thursday, March 7th at the Jean Mermoz Private Hospital - Ramsay Health in Lyon, after suffering a dislocation of his right knee in the match against Real Madrid this past weekend."

"The operation will be carried out by orthopedic surgeon Bertrand Sonnery - Cottet, under the supervision of Dr. Pedro Lopez, head of Valencia CF's medical services," inform the club, adding that "Diakhaby has spent 48 hours under medical observation at the IMED Hospital since his injury occurred."

The defender faces at least a year out of action, but there are fears that the seriousness of his injury means there is a chance it could end his career.

Getafe striker Borja Mayoral will also miss the rest of the season after the club announced he needs an operation after damaging the meniscus ligament in his right knee.

The injury is a massive blow to Mayoral, who is the top-scoring Spaniard in La Liga with 15 goals this season, and was expected to be called into the Spanish national team squad by coach Luis de la Fuente for the forthcoming international friendlies. Enditem
