BUENOS AIRES, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Abiel Osorio struck late as Velez Sarsfield climbed to fourth in Argentina's Primera Division Group A with a 1-0 home win over Rosario Central on Tuesday.

Osorio broke the deadlock in the 87th minute by heading into the bottom-right corner following a Claudio Aquino cross.

It was no less than the hosts deserved as they controlled almost two thirds of total possession and had 17 shots on goal, forcing six saves from Rosario Central goalkeeper Jorge Broun. The visitors, meanwhile, failed to have a single shot on target.

The result leaves Velez with 15 points from nine games, two points behind leaders Instituto Cordoba. Rosario Central are eighth in the 14-team group with five points so far.

Elsewhere, Colombia international midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero missed a penalty as Racing Club suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Sarmiento.

Fernando Godoy gave the visitors the lead in the 38th minute by curling a long-range effort into the top-right corner.

The hosts had a chance to equalize when referee Fernando Echenique pointed to the spot after Franco Paredes brought down Gabriel Rojas.

But Quintero's subsequent penalty attempt was saved by goalkeeper Fernando Monetti, who dived spectacularly to his right to palm the ball away.

In Tuesday's only other Primera Division fixture, Barracas Central drew 2-2 at home to Independiente. Enditem
