Laos' trade value exceeds 15 bln USD in 2023

VIENTIANE, March 6 (Xinhua) -- The combined trade value of Laos' imports and exports amounted to 15.5 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 3.5 percent compared to the figures for 2022.

The value of exports in 2023 was recorded at 8.3 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 3.5 percent compared to the figures for 2022, according to a report issued on Wednesday from the Lao Trade Portal website.

Meanwhile, imports in 2023 were worth 7.1 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 5 percent compared to the figures for 2022.

Laos' main export products included electricity, gold bullion, paper and paper products, gold ore, iron ore, potassium salt, cassava, rubber, pulp and paper waste, and sugar.

The country's main imports included diesel, mechanical equipment, land vehicles, iron and steel products, gasoline, vehicle spare parts, electrical and electronic equipment, plastic items, wood pulp and paper waste, and beverages.

Thailand, China and Vietnam are among the leading export destinations for Lao products. Meanwhile, the main importing countries of Laos include Thailand, China and Vietnam, according to the report.

In 2022, the country's exports were worth about 8.19 billion U.S. dollars, while imports were valued at 6.8 billion U.S. dollars, resulting in a trade surplus of 1.39 billion U.S. dollars in 2022. Enditem
